Tivoli Theatre Foundation Hosts First Annual Jewel Awards

Local high school theatre students packed the Walker Theatre on Saturday for the first annual Jewel Awards, presented by the Tivoli Theatre Foundation. Part of the Foundation’s newly formed education department, The Jewel Awards seeks to support, encourage, and grow high school theatre programs and connects them to The Broadway League Foundation’s National High School Musical Theatre Awards. The evening was hosted by actor Lamont J. Whitaker, who is currently on tour with “The Book of Mormon.” Chattanooga Christian School set the record with nine wins for their production of “Fiddler on the Roof,” including Best Music Direction and Best Choreography, and Christian Heritage School ... The Honeybee Festival is set for June 1 in Lafayette with three stages of local live bands performing all day. The headliner is Chris Janson, an American country music singer and songwriter. Janson has recorded three full-length albums, buy Me A Boat, Everybody, and Real Friends, through Warner Records in Nashville along with one extended play for Bigger Picture Music Group, Columbia Records, and Warner Nashville.

A house fire in North Chattanooga caused extensive damage Saturday afternoon. Red Shift companies responded to Lawn Street at 12:35 p.m. Battalion Chief Ashley May was first on the scene and saw heavy smoke coming from the residence.
