Lillian “Jeanette” Green Liles
Lillian “Jeanette” Green Liles, 91, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 5, 2024, at Morning Point of Hixson where she had lived the last two years.
She was born to Wonnie and Bessie Green on July 4, 1932 in Fyffe, Al. Jeanette moved to Chattanooga when she was 18 from the cotton fields to go to work at DuPont for the next 40 years. She may have remained in the city of Hixson the rest of her life, but she was still country in her heart.
She is survived by her very special friend of many years, David Cooper; daughter, Tammy Gilchrist (Ron); son, Verlon Liles, Jr. (Lorrie); as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wonnie and Bessie Green; brother, W.A. “Dub” Green; baby sister, Maxine Green, as well as other family members and friends.
Jeanette attended New Salem Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy, until she was no longer able to drive. She also loved her Gospel singing that she attended each week.
Jeanette loved her flowers, birds and butterfly’s during her retirement years always outside in the yard on beautiful days. She even had a little squirrel she named Skillet that would come to her porch while she was outside. She also keep busy doing her word search puzzles and writing notes about her days in them. She had been writing diary notes since she was a little girl in elementary school
Jeanette never met a stranger and always engaged with everyone she ever met. No matter where we were she always ended up seeing someone she knew. She always did for others as well, regularly contributing to the Chattanooga Food Bank and the Community Kitchen. She also was involved while working at DuPont with the United Way campaign each year and donated her fair share each year.

A graveside service will be held at Green’s Chapel Cemetery in Fyffe, Al., on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. EST.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the funeral home.
