University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Alicia "Red" Payne was announced today as the 2014-2015 Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Payne, shown above against Samford, led a UTC defense that allowed only 50.3 points per game while compiling a record of 26-3 (14-0) and defeating two teams that, at the time, were ranked in the top ten nationally. The Mocs are currently ranked at #17 in the nation. The number one seeded Mocs will open play in the SoCon tournament on Thursday in Asheville, NC against eighth seeded UNCG. That game will be played at noon in Kimmel Arena.
