U.S. Marine Veteran Held Long Career With DuPont

Marvin Kenneth Dedmon, 85, of East Ridge, passed away on March 26, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Marvin was born in Ringgold, on Nov. 29, 1938 to the late Woodrow and Irene Dedmon. He attended Chattanooga City High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served his country with distinction. After his discharge he went to work for Dupont Industries in various capacities, and retired after 26 years of dedicated service.

He enjoyed playing dominoes especially with his buddies at the American Legion Post 95 where he was a member. As an ordained minister he pastored several churches over the years. He was a member and attended Temple Baptist Church.

Marvin was a servant of the Lord with a giver's heart. He was always willing to help those in need. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, siblings, Eugene Dedmon, and Junior Dedmon.

Left to cherish Marvin’s memory are his children, Debbie (Mike) Pennington, Kenny (Darlene) Dedmon, grandchildren, Audrey Pennington, Heather Dedmon, Ryan (Miranda) Dedmon, Matt (Ashley) Dedmon, Michelle Pennington, five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, special friend, Fran “Billie” Phifer, and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Marvin’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Joe Headrick officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Marvin’s memory may be made to the American Legion William Blair Post 95, P.O. Box 9093, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.
