Gary J. Brown was born to Sam and Evelyn Brown on November 14, 1939, in Beersheba Springs, Tennessee. He passed from this life on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at his home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, surrounded by his family.

Gary was a veteran of the United States Army but most importantly he was a lifelong follower of Jesus. Gary was well known through the Tiftonia community for his service to the Lookout Valley Recreation Association and more. Coaching his sons in youth sports, supporting them in all their endeavors, and traveling to ball games, as well as other activities, of his two grandchildren were a joy in life for him. Gary was a current member of the Kingwood Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, but spent most of his adult lifetime worshipping and serving with the Tiftonia Church of Christ (currently the Brown’s Ferry Road Church of Christ) in Chattanooga where at one time he served as an elder of the church. Gary loved the church and his family. His gentle, loving, and supportive spirit will be missed by all.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Sam Brown, mother, Evelyn Hobbs, stepfather, Joe Hobbs, son, Tim Brown, and brother, Chuck Brown.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gloria (Murfreesboro), son Jeff and wife Susie (Murfreesboro, Tn.), grandson, T.J. Brown and fiancé Taylor Gonzalez (Spring Hill, Tn.), granddaughter, Chelsea Brown (Nashville) as well as multiple brothers-in-law, and sisters in-law and a large number of, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 28, from 6–8 p.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel as well as 10 a.m. on Friday, March 29, at the Brown’s Ferry Road Church of Christ. A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. with burial in the Lakewood Memorial Gardens West in Lookout Valley. Minister, and son, Jeff Brown and Minister George Cupp will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Brown’s Ferry Road Church of Christ, the Kingwood Church of Christ food pantry, or Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro.
