Mr. George “Buddy” Lawson, 89, of East Ridge, passed away Friday June 15, 2018 at his residence, surrounded by his family. Mr. Lawson was born June 22, 1928 in Rhea county Tennessee to parents George and Florence Downs Lawson. Buddy proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Navy. Mr. Lawson worked for Mayfield Dairies for many years as the mechanic supervisor and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #40. Buddy cherished each moment spent with his family and will be missed by all who came to know him.
Mr. Lawson is preceded in death by his precious wife, Betty Lawson; children, Sherrill Jean Lawson, Jim Lawson and Sgt. Robert Lawson, Sr; as well as best friend Sgt. Thomas Nihiser.
Survivors include children; Judy Nihiser, Sherry (Wayne) Robinson and Robert Lawson Jr.; grandchildren, Ricky (Lindsay) Doyal Jr., Corey (Amanda) Doyal, Kadi (Stephen) Justus, Jackie Robinson, Troy (Misty) Robinson, Jeremy (Randella) Robinson, Rebecca Ward and Elizabeth Coggins; 25 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; his fur baby, “Buddy;” as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services to honor the life of George “Buddy” Lawson will be held Wednesday June 20 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Military graveside services will be at 1 p.m. from the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Afterwards, he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and before the service on Wednesday.
