Mocs Softball Swept By UNCG 10-0, 15-7

The Chattanooga Mocs softball team couldn't get the bats hot on a warm afternoon at Frost Stadium as they were swept by UNCG by scores of 10-0 and 15-7.

The pair of losses drops the Mocs to 12-34 overall and 2-12 in SoCon action. UNCG improves to 26-20, 9-4 in league play.

The Spartans opened the game with a pair of runs in the top of the first with out recording a hit as they were aided by a walk and three hit batters.

The game would remain 2-0 UNCG after three complete innings until the Spartans plated five runs on three hits in the top of the fourth to extend out a 7-0 lead.
As part of the fourth inning, UNCG was walked four times and added a hit by pitch. They added three runs in the top of the fifth on four hits and one Mocs error, eventually closing the game out early in the bottom half by a score of 10-0.

Celie Hudson (3-8) took the loss in the circle going 3.0 innings while surrendering only two hits and four runs (all earned), but allowed three walks and four hit batters.

For the third-straight game, the Mocs were shutout on offense and registered only three hits in the loss. Aly Walker finished 1-for-2 at the plate, as did Brook Womack and J.J. Hamill.


For a second-straight game, the Spartans opened up a lead in the first inning as they plated six runs on six hits to begin the game. The Mocs would score a run, their first in 16-straight innings, in the bottom of the first on an Emma Sturdivant RBI single to right-center, cutting the deficit to 6-1.

UNCG would answer with three more runs in the top of the second on two hits and one Mocs error to open up a sizeable 9-1 lead. The Spartans would tack on four more runs in the third and two in the fourth to build a 15-1 lead. Chattanooga would bat around in the fourth as they plated six runs on five hits to trim the game to 15-7. Sturdivant led things off with a single down the line and later scored on a fielding error off the bat of Halie Williamson. Katy Richardson and Hayleigh Weissenbach both contributed two-RBI doubles in the inning.

Elizabeth Novelli (0-1) suffered the loss in her collegiate debut as she went 0.1 innings while allowing four hits and five runs (all earned). Hudson came in relief with 3.0 innings of work and allowed nine hits, ten runs (eight earned) while walking six and striking out one.

The Mocs finished the game with eight hits as Strudivant and Weissenbach led the offense with multi-hit games, going 2-for-3, RBI and 2-for-2, 2 RBI, respectively. Amy Lewis, Aly Walker and Ashley Conner all went 1-for-3 at the plate. Richardson went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI.
