George Powell

George Archie Powell, 88, of Soddy Daisy, died on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

Born in West Africa, he was raised by missionary parents and later went back to Africa to serve as a missionary himself until founding Grace Chapel in Skaneateles, New York in 1977. Rev. Powell also served with Friends of Israel and the Salvation Army. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

His wife, Jane Powell, brother, Keith Powell and daughter, Glenna Marie Powell preceded him in death. 

Survivors include his sons, Gary Hollis, Dave Hollis and Mark Hollis; daughters, Gloria Jenkins, Linda Yungerberg, Debbie Goss, Linda Knudsen and Wendy Sanders; sister, Erma Young; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held on Thursday, June 16, at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brian Morris officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
