Alice Morrow
Alice Joiner Morrow died on May 1,2016.
A lifelong resident of Lookout Mountain, Alice attended Lookout Mountain School before graduating from Girls Preparatory School in 1947. She graduated from Briarcliff College and from the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and studied education. Alice had a passion for teaching young children, as she spent years as a Sunday School teacher at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church and also taught elementary school at Lookout Mountain School.
Alice was married for 61 years to her beloved and devoted husband, Hugh. They were known for their care and love for family, friends and neighbors. While raising her family on Lookout Mountain, Alice was a Sustainer of the Chattanooga Junior League and served on the Cotton Ball Committee, Lookout Mountain Garden Club, Lookout Mountain School PTA Board, and Lookout Mountain Book Club. Her many years of studying Latin at GPS naturally led her to enjoy reading, working crossword puzzles and competing with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. After Hugh retired, Alice enjoyed spending her time in Sandestin, Florida where she and Hugh provided a special retreat where family and friends created cherished memories. Alice will be remembered dearly for her humor, kindness, intelligence and her desire to serve and care for those she loved.
The Morrow family would like to thank the caregivers from Brightstar who have loved Alice and Hugh so well for over three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, her parents, Claude and Alice Joiner, and her two brothers, Jimmy and Claude Joiner.
She is survived by her brother, Homer Joiner, her children, Mary Alice Sanders (William), Leigh Plante (Dave), Hugh Morrow, Jr. (Caroline), six grandchildren, Tripp Sanders (Candace), Carly Moss (Doug), Katie Plante, Meredith Brooks (Jay), Lorah Plante, Hannah Morrow, and one great-grandchild, Drew Sanders.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6, at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joe Novenson and Reverend Frank Hitchings officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service time in the church fellowship hall on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, please give in her memory to the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church Alice Joiner Library, Girls Preparatory School, Chattanooga, or the charity of your choice.
