Ralph Jones, a volunteer at Life Care Center of Hixson, has received the Tennessee Health Care Association’s 2015 Individual Volunteer Award. This award goes to an individual who exemplifies the spirit of nursing home volunteerism.
Mr. Jones has been volunteering at Life Care Center of Hixson for four years. He serves treats at the facility’s ice cream parlor, prepares meals for residents and helps with a cooking class. He leads devotions, education sessions and group discussions. Mr. Jones also shops for residents, leads sing-alongs, visits with residents and greets visitors at the nursing home’s front door.
Mr. Jones accepted the award Sept. 1 at a special luncheon during THCA’s Convention & Trade Show in Nashville, where individuals, groups and facilities were celebrated for their outstanding accomplishments in long-term care. Awards are presented annually in a variety of categories, from volunteer of the year to distinguished association service.
“Our Awards of Excellence winners are extremely dedicated to creating the best possible environment for Tennessee’s nursing home and assisted living residents,” said THCA Executive Director Jesse Samples. “It is a great honor to recognize their achievements and the examples they set for the entire long-term care profession."
