Jean Wyrick Napolitan, 92, of Chattanooga, formerly of Knoxville, Tennessee, died on Thursday, July 2, 2015 in a local hospital.

Born in Morristown, Tn., to the late Dr. and Mrs. M.L. Jenkins, she received her bachelor's of science degree in 1944 from the University of Tennessee.  While at UT she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and named a Vol Beauty her senior year.  

She taught in the Knoxville City Schools from 1966-1983 in the Clue Program for gifted and talented students and was named Teacher of the Year on several occasions.

Mrs. Napolitan was a charter member of West Hills Baptist Church in Knoxville, an avid gardener and a member of the West Hills 10 o’clock Garden Club.  She loved flower arranging, was a talented chef and enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Steve. Jean was a woman of strong character and determination who had a wonderful sense of humor and made everyone she touched a better person.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Napolitan, son, Larry Napolitan and sister, Beverly Hutchens.

Survivors are her son, Gary S. (Lillian) Napolitan, Signal Mountain, Tn.; grandchildren, Chrissy (Chas) Schaerer, MaryGrace and Sarah Napolitan, all of Signal Mountain; great-grandson, Gage Schaerer, Signal Mountain; and cousins, Eleanor Biggs, David Bright and Jerry Bright.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 7, at 3 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Jack Pennington of Knoxville, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Orange Grove Center of Chattanooga, 615 Derby Street, Chattanooga, Tn. 37404.

The family wishes to thank JoAnn Crabtree of Knoxville, the staff, nurses and special friends of Manorhouse Assisted Living in Chattanooga for their love and care which afforded Jean a wonderful experience during the last several years.
