Lifelong Chattanoogan Was Author Of A Book

Billie Regina Johnson Crews, 67, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Kindred Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. 

Born June 30, 1947, Billie was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. She was a graduate of Riverside High School in Chattanooga and Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Billie retired from the Private Industry Council in Chattanooga. She authored a book in 2009, “Saunter Meets the Whipawopper.”

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, William Johnson, Sr., and Iola Rogers Johnson; one sister, Barbara Lewis; and two brothers, William Johnson, Jr. and Nelson Johnson.

She is survived by two daughters, Terri (Michael) Payne of Atlanta and Tracy Crews of Chattanooga; three sisters, Wanda (Steve) Powell of Agawam, Massachusetts, Chrisdenator (Jake) Weatherly of Chattanooga and Christene Fredd of Mobile, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Rashuan, Mya, Aniya and Lakhia Tucker of Chattanooga and Michaela and Michael Payne of Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Robert Rice and other ministers officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, May 29, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
