The Chattanooga Theatre Centre presents Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play. "Award-winning playwright Christopher Durang is in sidesplitting top form with this riotous Broadway smash, which opens June 12 for ten performances on the Circle Stage," officials said.
Vanya, Sonia, and Masha are three siblings whose artsy parents (now deceased) named them after characters from Chekhov. Vanya (played by Greg Rambin, Sr.) and Sonia (Julie Van Valkenburg) lived at home to care for their ailing parents while sister Masha (Kristina Montague) travelled the world as an international movie star.
Now Masha is back with her boy-toy Spike (Tom Majors) in tow, and she’s intent on selling the house. Add to the mix a housekeeper with second sight (Maya Abram) and a star-struck girl-next-door (Megan Cobb) and thus ensues a comical weekend in the country that you’ll never forget.
Scott Dunlap directs the production. Karen Henderson and Stacy Helton are Stage Managers. Audiences, note that this is a comedy for adults and contains strong language.
Tickets are now on sale. Only a limited number of tickets are still available for opening night. The following night, Saturday, June 13, is the final night of Riverbend, so patrons seeing that night’s performance are invited to move to the CTC patio afterwards for libations and to enjoy the Riverbend finale fireworks.
