Barbara M. Mitchell, 93, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2015.  

She was the church secretary at First Baptist Church for many years until she retired, prior to that she was the Pastor’s Secretary and Church Hostess at Brainerd Baptist Church.  She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, George R. Mitchell who she met while they were both serving in the U.S. Military; a sister, Geraldine Pender and brother, Joseph Thompson.

Survivors include her son, George R. (Rick) Mitchell, II and his wife, Barbara of Ooltewah; granddaughter, Emily Mitchell Houston and her husband Colby of Ooltewah; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Ryan Houston; one sister, Theda Trevor and two brothers, Frank Guerro and Donald Thompson; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the McEwen Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating.  Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the church.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution be sent to Sports & Rec. Plus, 2288 Gunbarrel Road, Suite 154 – 235, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
