DAR Members Welcome New U.S. Citizens

  • Friday, October 17, 2014

The Nancy Ward and Moccasin Bend chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution helped to welcome new American citizens at the Federal Building in Chattanooga.

Jo Hill, regent of Nancy Ward, greeted the new citizens and welcomed them to the country.  She congratulated them on the hard work that they put in to gain citizenship status.

Mrs. Hill gave each new citizen a flag pin and a copy of the Declaration of Independence.

Sara Maloney, Susan Daley and other members of the Moccasin Bend DAR chapter had punch and cookies for the new citizens after they were sworn in.

The five chapters of the DAR in Chattanooga rotate the responsibility of welcoming new citizens throughout the year. In two ceremonies almost 100 people took the oath of citizenship. It is one of the most interesting activities that DAR is involved in, said officials.

DAR is a lineal society of descendants of the American Revolution.
