One day after receiving the award for the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, sophomore Taylor Long was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Pitcher of the Week.
This is her second accolade from the TSWA this season.
Long recorded a 1.02 ERA, struck out 21 batters in 12.2 innings. She allowed three runs, two earned, walked six and had a .231 opponent batting average. She recorded two wins and picked up her first save of the season.
In relief against Jacksonville State, she struck out nine through 3-2/3 innings and got the win.
In Southern Conference play Saturday, Long struck out nine while throwing a complete game to get her second win of the week and SoCon-leading 10th of the season. She struck out nine for the second straight game and has a league-best 89 on the year.
In Chattanooga’s thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Bulldogs in the second game Saturday, Long faced three batters in the final inning. With no outs and one on base when she entered, the first two popped out and got the last out on a swinging strike.
Long also made an appearance in the Mocs 8-3 win on Sunday to complete the SoCon-opening weekend series sweep of Samford.
This is Long's second SoCon Pitcher of the Week honor this season by the TSWA. She is also a two-time SoCon Pitcher of the Week, getting her second nod earlier this week.
Chattanooga hosts ETSU Friday and Saturday in a three-game series. The games are moved up to accommodate the Easter holiday on Sunday. The Mocs and Bucs will play a doubleheader Friday and one game Saturday. Games will start at 1:00 p.m. both days.
The Mocs leads the Southern Conference with a 3-0 start to the season and are 21-8 overall. ETSU went 0-3 over the weekend, falling to UNCG at home, and is 4-17 overall.
