UTC's San Juan Tied For 13th At Mason Randolph Championships

  • Friday, September 21, 2018
-Monica San Juan got off to a good start for the Chattanooga Mocs at the Mason Rudolph Championships. She made her way around the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course with a season-best 70 to lead her squad to 299 Friday afternoon.

San Juan is tied for 13th overall. She made her turn today at 3 under with birdies at 13, 16 and 18 after the squad started on No. 10. A bogey at one and double on six dropped her back to level, but the senior from Pamplona, Spain stormed back with birdies and seven and eight, the latter coming after a weather delay.

The Mocs are 13th, three behind Charlotte in 12th.
The squad is two clear of Southern Conference-rival Mercer at 301 and four ahead of Middle Tennessee with 303.

San Juan’s 70 was supported by Maddy McDanel with 73, Rheagan Hall at 77 and Esme Hamilton shooting 79. Dorota Zalewska had the drop tally with 82.

Vanderbilt holds the lead shooting 278 on its home course. Arizona State (279) and Clemson (283) round out the top 3. The Commodores’ Abbey Carlson is the individual leader with 66.

Due to inclement weather expected late tomorrow and into Sunday, the field tees off in a shotgun start Saturday with an eye toward completing the final 36 holes. Live scoring and pairings are linked above.
