AGC Of East Tennessee Now Offering Scholarships For Construction-Related Education

  • Monday, June 11, 2018

Associated General Contractors of East Tennessee says they are committed to building the next generation of construction professionals.  To that end, the organization is offering scholarships for college students who are pursuing a career in a construction-related education program at a non-proprietary, technical, community or four-year college or university.

Scholarships range from $500-$3,000 per academic year, depending on course schedule, grades and other factors. The final determination of the award amount is at the sole discretion of the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Inc. with input and recommendations provided by the AGC’s Education Committee.

“Workforce development and construction-industry education is a core focus of the AGC,” said Bo Bentley, chairman of AGC’s Education Committee and vice president at T.T. Wilson Company.  “We’re proud that our members established a scholarship program that has awarded support to nearly 140 students in excess of $550,000 since its launch in 2006.”

Most scholarship recipients have attended regional colleges and universities, graduating with degrees such as associates of applied science, bachelors of science, and masters in construction management.

Basic Scholarship Qualifications:
Attend a non-proprietary, technical, community or four-year college or university
Carry/complete at least nine (9) hours pursuing a degree in a construction related field and/or declared major in architecture, construction or engineering (must carry at least three (3) credit hours of construction or construction related classes per semester)
2.6 minimum grade point average
Current college-level status; transitional/remedial coursework does not qualify for scholarship
U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
