Hydrocephalus Association’s 7th Annual WALK is Oct. 21
More than 500 walkers representing local corporations, families, schools, and organizations are expected to mobilize for the Hydrocephalus Association’s 7th Annual WALK on Saturday, Oct. 21, at AT&T Field from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The national goal is to raise more than $1.1 million for research to eliminate hydrocephalus and its challenges.
“Volunteering for the Hydrocephalus Association is a labor of love, working toward such an important goal – curing a condition that affects more than one million Americans, and which can be diagnosed at any time,” said WALK Chair Chara McLaughen of Chattanooga. “We’re all volunteers – and that’s why we are committed to raising money – medical research is critical to finding the answers to this life threatening condition that affects our loved ones. We’ve banded together to make a difference.”
Ms. McLaughen’s daughter was diagnosed before her birth in 2009 with hydrocephalus. Since then, she has undergone 12 brain surgeries for shunt placement and revisions.
Entire families enjoy participating in the Hydrocephalus Association 2017 WALK, many of them with a connection to HA’s mission. There will be music from DJ Gene Lovin, games for the kids, and food. On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at AT&T Field.
Last year HA WALKs raised more than $1 million from 30 sites and this year they’re expected to top $1.1 million. The number of 2017 WALK sites continues to grow daily, currently topping 35. All Hydrocephalus Association WALKs are initiated and coordinated solely by volunteers with all of the proceeds used for vital research, support, education and advocacy.
Founded in 1983, the Hydrocephalus Association’s mission is to promote a cure for hydrocephalus and improve the lives of those affected by the condition. They will accomplish this by collaborating with patients, caregivers, researchers and industry, raising awareness, and funding innovative, high-impact research to prevent, treat and ultimately cure hydrocephalus.
