Lee Women's Soccer Drops Gulf South Conference Contest At CBU, 1-0

  • Saturday, September 23, 2017

For the first time this season, the Lee University women's soccer team tasted defeat in a Gulf South Conference matchup with a 1-0 setback at Christian Brothers University. The Lady Flames dropped to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the GSC, while CBU improved to 6-2 (3-1 GSC).

After a scoreless first half, the hosts scored the lone goal of the match just over seven minutes into the second period when Lauren Magdefrau delivered the eventual game-winner off an assist by Anna Della Rosa.

“I think we’re creating really good opportunities, now we just have to find the goal,” said Lee head coach Chris Hennessey.

“Unfortunately, the other teams seem to find one-half chance and put it away.”

Lee fired off 17 shots, but placed just five on goal. The Lady Bucs put four of their seven shots on frame. CBU also took five corner kicks to Lee's one.

Haley Gribler tallied three saves in the loss. Autumn Woods secured the clean sheet with five saves.

“We have some things we need to sort out and hopefully we can get a good result against Union on Sunday and just keep moving forward,” added Hennessey.

The Lady Flames will look to get back on the winning track on Sunday against Union in Jackson, Tenn. The GSC match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. EDT start.
