Playing for the District 6 A-AA tennis title, it came down to No.2 doubles with the overall match tied at 4 all.

Hixson’s Amy Carranza and Sydney Buckner defeated Grace Brown and Cheyenne Cummings, of Red Bank, 8-6, Thursday at the Hixson Rec Center courts to give the host Wildcats the district championship, 5-4, for the second straight year and fourth title in five years.

“It was a great win for us as we finish the regular season undefeated heading into the playoffs,” said Hixson coach Mary Phillips.

While the Hixson girls are familiar with winning the district hardware, the Red Bank boys earned their first district 6-AA crown under coach Glen Wagner, now in his 15th season as the boys and girls coach.

The Lions defeated Hixson, 8-1, in the boys match and will face the District 5-AA champ in two weeks for the region title.

What’s Next: The Individual District 6-AA tournament is May 4-5 at the Brainerd Courts and Region 3-AA team matches are May 11 (girls) and May 12 (boys) hosted by the District 5 champions.
