Lowland Hum Comes To Chattanooga Friday

  • Wednesday, March 29, 2017

The husband-wife team of Daniel and Lauren Goans make up Lowland Hum and they will be performing a house concert in Chattanooga on Friday in support of their third studio album Thin.

Review for Lowland Hum:

Lowland Hum released a beautiful new album titled Thin on Feb. 10. NPR's All Songs Considered, a track-by-track feature went live with the duo giving a detailed backstory to each song on the album. NPR's Bob Boilen commented, "Sincerity, community and beauty is how I think of Lowland Hum; the sounds of Lauren and Daniel Goans."

During an election-focused episode in mid-January, NPR's All Songs Considered featured "Palm Lines," a track that "...exposes its insecurity in full, pondering the path ahead." Boilen continued with, "Doubt may be their inspiration, but the message is one of persistence, as Daniel and Lauren Goans trudge into the future, one foot in front of the other."

In anticipation for Thin, The Huffington Post spoke with the duo in November about the recording process and also premiered a making-of video. Pro Sound News profiled Daniel, one half of Lowland Hum, in their December cover story on indie producers. Daniel produced the new record for Gold Connections, a great band on Fat Possum's roster and co-produced Thin, with Lauren Goans.

Touring-wise, Lowland Hum jumped back on Josh Ritter's tour in February, stopping in Charlotte, NC and Richmond, VA, before heading out on their own headlining tour for the remainder of February and March. In March, Lauren and Daniel joined Jesca Hoop for three dates in the midwest. In April, the band joins Penny and Sparrow for an 11 day run starting in Jackson, Ms. on April 4.

Based in Charlottesville, Va., Lowland Hum is Daniel and Lauren Goans. Together they are a prolific, two-person creative factory. They met in North Carolina in 2009 when Daniel crashed a party at Lauren's apartment. The next year, Daniel asked Lauren to collaborate on an album he was working on, by adding harmony vocals and designing the artwork for the project, with her background in visual arts. Eventually, Lauren's voice was added to half the album.

Lowland Hum formed officially in 2012, a few months after the two were married. In the years following the release of their critically acclaimed debut, Native Air (2013), the duo has toured the country almost nonstop. In 2014 they followed up their debut with Four Sisters, a conceptual EP and video series, and then, in 2015, they released their eponymous sophomore full-length album, garnering a slew of praise from NPR to Nerdist.
