Lee University will host “Marimba Madness,” a percussion studio concert, featuring guest artist JiHye Jung on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall.

The program will include works by Michael Burritt, Mark Ford, Alice Gomez, Lukas Ligeti, David Maslanka, Gordon Stout, and Alejandro Vinao.

Ms. Jung frequently performs with many of today’s most important conductors and instrumentalists. She has served as principal percussionist for the past six years with the west coast-based chamber music ensemble Camerata Pacifica, with whom she has premiered works by Bright Sheng and Huang Ruo. She has also recorded Stravinsky’s Les Noces with JoAnn Falletta at the Virginia Arts Festival, performed as soloist with David Robertson conducting an all Messiaen program at Carnegie Hall, and made her concerto debut with the Houston Symphony under the baton of Hans Graf in 2005.

Ms. Jung has also performed at Portugal’s Tomarimbando Festival, the West Cork Chamber Music Festival in Ireland, The Intimacy of Creativity in Hong Kong, Germany’s Schleswig-Holstein Festival, and the Grachtenfestival in Holland, among others.

Sunday’s concert will include students from the percussion studio of Dr. Andy Harnsberger, assistant professor of music and percussion coordinator at Lee.

Dr. Harnsberger, in addition to his teaching at Lee, is active throughout the year as a freelance percussionist and recitalist. He is a performing artist and clinician for Malletech Instruments and Mallets, Remo Drum Heads, Sabian Cymbals, Ltd., and Grover Pro Percussion.

“Marimba Madness” is a free, non-ticketed event, and is open to the public.  For more information, contact the School of Music at 614-8240 or email aharnsberger@leeuniversity.edu.
