The Bright School held its 41st annual high jump competition Thursday.

The winners were fifth graders Mattie Nall and Noah Cobb.

Mattie cleared a height of 4 feet, 1 inch to top all the girls. Noah set the school's high jump record at 5 feet. The previous record was held by sixth grader Sam Lynch, who cleared 4 feet, 9 inches in 1996.

Bright School is one of only a few elementary schools in the nation with indoor high jump equipment, officials said. Dr. Bob Cutrer started the annual competition in 1976 when he was the P.E. instructor.
