Moc Golfers 2-Under At Magnolia Grove Crossings

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team started its spring slate with two solid rounds. They started with a 286 and closed the 36-hole day with a 288. That’s good for a 2-under 574 at Magnolia Grove Crossings Course.
 
The two par or better 18s are the sixth and seventh of the season. All six were recorded over the last seven rounds. That puts the Mocs in fifth two strokes behind Georgia State (572). UTC is three clear of Cincinnati and Kansas State which are tied for sixth at 577.
 
Wes Gosselin and Phillip Hickam lead the Mocs, tied for seventh at 3-under 141.
Stuart Thomas is tied for 25th at 145 (+1). Andrew Weathers is two behind Thomas tied for 38th at +3 (147). Lake Johnson shot 154.
 
Three Mocs are participating in the USA Individual at Magnolia Grove Falls Course. Brooks Thomas is tied for ninth at +4 (146), while Etienne Brault tallied 148 (+6) and is tied for 13th. Will Porter is tied in 27th with a 156.
 
Host South Alabama leads at -11. Louisville is two shots behind at -9, while Mississippi State is third (571). GSU’s Alexander Herrmann leads at -6 (138).
 
The 18-hole, shotgun start begins at 8 a.m., Central time, weather permitting, Tuesday morning. The Mocs traverse the final 18 with Georgia State and Cincinnati beginning on holes 4-6. Click the links above for results, live scoring and pairings.
 

In the first round, the Mocs opened in fourth place shooting 2-under 286. It was powered by Wes Gosselin’s season-best 66 (-6) which put him in a tie for first with Louisiana-Lafayette’s Fernando Cruz Valle. Stuart Thomas (72), Phillip Hickam (73) and Andrew Weathers (75) rounded out the counting scores. The quartet played -8 over their final five holes.
 
South Alabama had the low team score at 10-under 278.
 
UTC earned another par or better total with an even-par 288 in the afternoon. Hickam led the way at 4 under followed by Weathers (72), S. Thomas (73) and Gosselin (75). It was the sixth-best team score of the 18.
 
Louisville and Georgia State tied for the top team total of 283 (-5).
