Richard L. Boyd, 84, of East Ridge passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017.

He was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where he loved to sing in the choir.  He was also a member of 55 and Alive seniors group and was very dedicated to the Jones Memorial United Methodist Men’s Club Barbeque.  Richard retired from Combustion Engineering as a welder after 51 years of service. In 1999 he lost an eye to cancer and since he was not ready to retire he was remarkably able to recertify as a welder with only one eye. Richard also played fast pitch softball on Combustion’s team. He was an avid golfer and had been a member at Concord Golf Course. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge #558 F&AM, The Scottish Rite and the Alhambra Shrine.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy and the “apples of his eye.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Kyle and Lennie Marie Roberts Boyd and siblings, Wanda, Nila, Gene, Joyce and Jimmy.

Survivors include his wife of 58 1/2 years, Elizabeth Rominger Boyd; sons Ricky (Lisa) Boyd and Kyle (Danielle) Boyd; four grandchildren, Brandon (Courtney) Boyd, Tyler (Macy) Boyd, Brody Boyd and Kensley Boyd; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Savannah Boyd; one sister, Gail Cogburn (Bill Hixon); one sister-in-law, Carolyn Boyd of Enterprise, Alabama; Brother-in-law, Clyde Turner; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on  Friday at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. B. Eric Rieger officiating.  Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on  Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, and 12 – 1 p.m. on  Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, 4131 Ringgold Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105 or Candlelighters 1305 Darlene Circle, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.
