Comcast is hosting a policy panel discussion on digital literacy and access to technology on Thursday at 8 a.m. Over 50 nonprofit leaders, elected officials, educators, community organization representatives and other stakeholders interested in helping to close the digital divide will be in attendance.
Following the policy forum, Comcast will also host a Digital Literacy assembly at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy where they will deliver 50 laptops to students from CGLA and Orchard Knob Middle School.
The Digital Inclusion Public Policy Forum will include Chris Ramsey, CEO, TechTown Chattanooga; Dr. Elaine Swafford, principal at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy; Charlie Brock, CEO of Launch Tennessee; Dr. Zac Brown, director of Opportunity Schools HCDE; Comcast Senior Vice President of Human Resources Tina Simmons; David Carroll, anchor WRCB-TV 3 NBC; and Chattanooga elected officials and community leaders.
The forum will be held at Tech Town, 1100 Market St., Suite 200.
The Digital Literacy Assembly with computer laptop give-away will include Ms. Simmons; Erskine Oglesby, Chattanooga councilman; Dr. Swafford; and Chattanooga elected officials, community leaders and CGLA and Orchard Knob Middle School students. It will be held at CGLA, 1802 Bailey Ave.
Comcast’s Internet Essentials program is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive high-speed internet adoption program, and has connected more than four million low-income Americans, about one million households, to high-speed internet service at home. Comcast’s Internet Essentials program has helped connect 30,000 Tennessee households – or 120,000 low-income Tennesseans.
