Gary Pickett
Gary Lamar Pickett, 68, died on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.
Gary was a gunner’s mate in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War serving in combat. Later he pursued a medical career once he returned home working as an orthopedic physician’s assistant for 30 years.
He was a loving father and enfatuated grandfather who never met a stranger and never short on humor.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Pickett; mother, Betty Anne Pickett; grandparents, Ewing and Myrtle Pickett.
Gary is survived by his son, Gary (Stephanie) Pickett, Jr.; daughter, Ashley Pickett; grandchildren, Sophie and Brandon Pickett; father, Harold Pickett; and sister, Carol Butler.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 3, from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace.
Funeral services for Gary will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the funeral home chapel with interment will follow to Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
Carol and Richard Butler were vital caregivers during Gary’s last days.
