UTC Tennis Wins Three At Dale Short Shootout

  • Saturday, September 24, 2016
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team scored three wins on the second day of the Dale Short Shootout presented by Jason's Deli in Murfreesboro, Tenn., today.  The Mocs won a pair of doubles and one singles match at MTSU.

Senior Derrick Brown and junior Michael Birnbaum teamed for an 8-3 win in doubles.  Sophomore Paul LaHue and freshman Max Grobbelaar also had an 8-3 win in doubles.

"Overall I was very pleased with our doubles today," stated head coach Carlos Garcia.
"Both teams got off to quick starts, which was key to grabbing the early momentum.  That is something we have been collectively working on in practice."

Freshman Simon Bustamante scored the only win in singles.  The Guayaquil, Ecuador, native defeated Chad Woodham (6-2, 6-3) for his first collegiate victory.

"Even though we had some good battles in singles, we have to improve our match toughness and do a better job handling pressure situations," added Garcia.

The Mocs wrap up play at the Dale Short event tomorrow.  Be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for full details.
