Saturday I was in line for lunch at Chick-fil-A on Brainerd Road. In front of me was a Chattanooga police officer on his break. In front of him was a little boy in his mama’s arms. Being held by his mother, the young boy’s face was almost eye level with the policeman so the child was giving this man in uniform a good up and down look and checking out the badge.
This officer was so very polite and kind, asking the child his name as the mom talked about how she talks to her son about how you can trust a fireman or policeman and how they take care of us. The officer stayed focused on the child, asking about school and telling him to do good. The whole exchange was about a two minute conversation between one of our finest in blue and this little boy, who could one day wear the uniform. It made me smile as a reminder of all that is right and good about our protectors at CPD.
The scene stayed in my head all weekend so I just thought a great way to start the week is with a public pat-on-the-back to Chattanooga Officer Ryan Vanderpool, who proved a great ambassador for his sisters and brothers in law enforcement.
Thanks, man.
