Chattanooga Area Urban League And Enterprise Rent-A-Car To Donate "Shoes For School" At Coolidge Park

  • Friday, July 29, 2016

Approximately 500 local students between the ages of 5-12 are registered for the First Annual “Shoes for School” event where they will be able to pick up a new pair of tennis shoes and school supplies donated by Enterprise Rent-A-Car in partnership with the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga on Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon on the Coolidge Park lawn.

There will be a formal ceremony at 9:15 a.m. with Warren Logan, president of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga; Timothy Romero, regional vice president of Enterprise Holdings, Inc.; Coach Lurone Jennings, administrator of Youth and Family Development  for the City of Chattanooga.

Attending the event will be Chattanooga area students and families, Urban League and Enterprise representatives, and volunteers from the following organizations: The Bethlehem Center, Boys & Girls Club, Chattanooga State’s International Community Outreach Department, Chattanooga Housing Authority, Children Advocacy Center, HCDE, Inner Peace Church, and LifeSpring Community Health Partnership and Families

Enterprise Rent-A-Car created Shoes for School, and has partnered with the Urban League of Knoxville to host this event for the last 14 years.

Due to its success in Knoxville, Enterprise decided to expand its footprint by partnering with the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga to start the program in Chattanooga.

The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga partnered with area nonprofits in early June to identify and register deserving students who were in need of a brand new pair of tennis shoes. These students, accompanied by their parents and representatives from the nonprofits, will pick up their shoes in person on Saturday. In addition to giving the registered students their tennis shoes, 20 business and civic organizations will be on hand to give these students school supplies.

Officials will only furnish shoes and school supplies to those students registered for the First Annual Shoes for School event. Registrants applied in June and officials did not order any extra shoes.
