NASCAR’s future golden boy Ty Dillon made his annual pilgrimage to Chattanooga’s Boyd’s Speedway for a whistle stop tour of one his favorite dirt tracks Tuesday night.
Meeting fans, posing for pictures and then climbing behind the wheel of his #41 “Bad Boy Buggies, UNOH: University of Northwestern Ohio” Dirt Late Model was the order of business for the Dale McDowell/TDR (Team Dillon Racing) protégé. McDowell races his Dirt Late Models out of the Lewisville, N.C. Richard Chldress Racing facility, but maintains most of the equipment in nearby Chattanooga close to his Chickamauga residence. Besides racing, McDowell oversees Boyd’s Speedway’s racing operation with track owner David Duplissey.
On this Tuesday night McDowell decided to sit out of competition after winning Sunday night's event in Rome, Ga. Of the races almost 40 competitors, “The Coach” David Payne of Murphy, N.C., added his name to the growing list of winners on the Ray Cook Shaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals series, picking up the $3,500 payday.
Tennessee’s Vic Hill was second, Western Australian Craig Vosburgen was third, Columbus, Ind.'s Devin Gilpin was fourth and Knoxville’s Stacy Boles rounded out the Top 5. Dillon would finish 13th at the conclusion of the feature race.
Boyd’s Speedway is back in action this Saturday night.
