Commission's February Meeting Set For 1 Day In Nashville

  • Monday, February 8, 2016

The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission will hold a one-day meeting when it returns to Nashville and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building on Friday. The February meeting will begin at 9 a.m.

Due to the inclement weather that forced the postponement of the TFWC January meeting in Memphis, several agenda items were pushed to this month. One of the items is a rule concerning the required permits to hunt and fish on Reelfoot Lake/Wildlife Management Area that will be presented to the TFWC. The TWRA held a public meeting in December at Reelfoot Lake State Park and the Agency is making the recommendation to the TFWC that no changes be made to the current permits.

TWRA Wildlife and Forestry Division Chief Mark Gudlin will give follow-up on bear and deer harvest numbers. He gave a preliminary report on the recently concluded hunting seasons at the January meeting.

Real Estate Division Chief Tim Churchill will present proclamations for several areas in West Tennessee (Region I) that have not been previously proclaimed. There will be nine areas presented to be either a refuge or wildlife management area.

TFWC Chairman Jim Bledsoe will call for a report from the TFWC Nominating Committee. The TFWC will elect new officers for 2016-17.

The Boat and Law Enforcement Division will introduce the 2015 Tennessee Shikar Safari Wildlife Officer of the Year. A representative from Shikar Safari will make the presentation.

Michael May, Information Technology Division chief, will introduce the division’s 2015 Professional of the Year.
