Jordan Smith returns to Cleveland and Lee University on Thursday, Feb. 18, for a free community concert.

Jordan Smith, Lee University student and winner of NBC’s The Voice, will return to the Cleveland campus Thursday, Feb. 18, for two “welcome home” concerts, one of which is open to the entire community.

Mr. Smith, a senior music business major from Harlan, Ky., was named the winner of The Voice Season 9 in December after his performances repeatedly wowed the coaches and climbed the charts. He took time off from school to audition and participate in the show, but will return to Cleveland next week for the first time since his winning run.

Mr. Smith’s first appearance Thursday will be a reunion with his fellow students, when he will perform in Lee’s regular morning chapel service, followed by a reception for Lee students and faculty in Paul Dana Walker Arena.

On Thursday evening, neighbors of the university and the general public are invited to gather for a Welcome Back, Jordan! Community Concert at 7 p.m.

“We can’t wait to see Jordan back on the stage where he has sung to us so many times,” said Lee President Paul Conn.  “I know the students will be excited to hear from him again in familiar surroundings.”

The university’s chapel services are traditionally open to the public, but in response to the interest of everyone coming in for the performance, Mr. Smith has agreed to two separate performances.

“We want all the students who want to come to have that opportunity,” Dr. Conn said, “but we didn’t want to turn our community guests away.  There are only so many seats, so we asked Jordan to give us a second concert especially for the community.”

The community concert will be a one-hour, free, non-ticketed event.  Doors will open at 6 p.m. and seating will be first come, first served.  Overflow seating will be available in nearby auditoriums on a closed-circuit, on-screen relay, and guests who can’t be on campus for the event are welcome to catch the performance on a live, streaming webcast.

University officials invite the community to the 7 p.m. performance.  Admission to the morning chapel service will be for Lee students and employees only.

Lee University’s Conn Center is located at the Cleveland campus, at the intersection of Parker and 11th streets.  Those wishing to view the webcast can direct a browser to http://livestream.com/leeu
