Flossie Weill was sworn in as municipal judge for the town of Lookout Mountain, Tn., by Hamilton County Chancellor Pam Fleenor on Tuesday morning.

Mayor Carol Mutter and the town commissioners made the appointment to fill the unexpired eight-year term of Judge John Higgason who died last week.

Judge Weill will serve in the position at least until August, when the next election will be held, “and we hope, longer,” said Mayor Mutter.

Judge Weill grew up in North Chattanooga, the daughter of longtime Chattanooga lawyer Harry Weill. She attended the Bright School and GPS. She earned an undergraduate degree at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and a law degree from UT College of Law in Knoxville. She has lived on Lookout Mountain for the last 30 years.

In 1976, she joined the Weill, Ellis, Weems and Copeland law firm where her father was a senior partner, and began her nearly 40-year career. In 2007, she and her cousin Ira Long, Jr. formed the firm where she practices today, Weill & Long, PLLC.

She is the former president of the Brock-Cooper Chapter of the American Inns of Court, an international organization to promote professionalism and to mentor judges and lawyers. Ms. Weill is a member of the Mizpah Congregation of Chattanooga where she is co chair of the community social action program.

Judge Weill is married to Barry Parker, a local author and publisher. She has two sons, Johnny Shoaf and Alex Shoaf, and two step-sons, Jordan Parker and Adam Parker.
