Lee University senior health science major Lexie Dean has been named the 2015-16 Tucker Scholar in Natural Science and Mathematics.

Ms. Dean is a resident of Ooltewah and a graduate of Grace Baptist Academy in Chattanooga. She has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.97 while at Lee, granting her membership in Alpha Chi National Honor Society.  Ms. Dean has played for Lee’s Lady Flames softball team all four years of attending Lee.

“I’m honored to be selected as the Tucker Scholar for this year,” said Ms. Dean. “My main focus is to get the best education possible to prepare me for my future career. I know that Lee’s challenging and informational science and math classes will continue to help me after graduation.”

The scholarship is awarded to a rising senior majoring in the field of natural science or mathematics. Candidates for the Tucker Scholarship are nominated by faculty and chosen based on outstanding academic achievement. Consideration is given to financial need, and priority is given to students who graduated from an East Tennessee high school.

The Tucker Foundation Scholarship was introduced in 2009 as part of an institutional initiative to enhance natural science and mathematics at Lee University. The endowed scholarship was established by the Tucker Foundation on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Summerfield K. Johnston, Jr.
