Chattanooga State’s Honors Program, Global Scholars, will host a special event called, “100 Ways to Change the World” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9 in room 1085 of the Health Science Center on the main campus.
“100 Ways to Change the World” is the story of one family’s decision to do something different and in the process embrace change as they discover more about themselves.
Featured speaker, Tracey Carisch, is a mother, writer, world traveler and change agent. She began her career in the field of cybersecurity working for a large international consulting firm. Soon after completing her masters of business administration, she shifted her focus to the non-profit world and served as a director at Siskin Children's Institute, an organization that serves children with special needs. Her background in technology and project management eventually led to a leadership role in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education initiative for Southeast Tennessee.
This community-wide effort established the Hamilton County STEM School at Chattanooga State and the Southeast Tennessee STEM Innovation Hub, where Mrs. Carisch served as the managing director for two years.
“The concept is actually 100 ways to changes ourselves,” shares Mrs. Carisch. She and her husband, Brian, wanted to give their three-homeschooled girls a unique learning experience by “taking a leap into the unknown.” The family travels the world and volunteers in the communities they visit. “Through service, we’re creating connections to local communities, learning things we could never learn at home, and developing a better understanding for the challenges and opportunities our global society faces,” said Mrs. Carisch.
Global Scholars at Chattanooga State are guided by the maxim, Challenge Yourself. Change the World. For more information about the event contact Amanda Bennett at 423-697-2577 or visit www.chattanoogastate.edu/events/100-ways-change-world.
