Wendell Garber
Wendell H. Garber, 91, of Ringgold, Georgia, died on Sunday evening, July 5, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a native of Jamestown, Oh., and was a retired employee of Sears & Roebuck in Ocala, Fl., with over 20 years of service. He moved to the Chattanooga and the north Georgia area over 30 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy and was in the D-Day invasion on June 7, 1944. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Garber.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Lou Chewning, Ringgold, son, Doug (Ellen) Garber, Penrose, N.C., five granddaughters, Cara Chewning, Jessica Garber, Lindsey Penix, April Garber and Lillian Garber, five grandsons, Scott Chewning, Job Garber, Jason Green, Douglas Garber, Jr. and Lucas Garber, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Reverend Lawrence Clark officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made the Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Dr. Chattanooga, Tn. 37416, the family wishes to thank the nurses and staff for their devoted care of their father during his illness.
No visitation will be held at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
