Howard Patrick Murchison
Howard Patrick Murchison, 74 of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, died on June 30, 2015.
Pat was born on Jan. 11, 1941, in St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, and grew up in Murfreesboro. He graduated from Murfreesboro Central High School in 1959 and from Middle Tennessee State University in 1966, at which time he started his career in public accounting with Haskin & Sells, CPA’s. Pat worked at two other firms before starting his own firm, Pat Murchison and Associates in 1980. In 1982, he merged with Dan Johnson and Harrison Hickey and they formed the firm of Johnson, Hickey and Murchison, P.C. After over 30 years he retired from that firm in 2007. Pat loved being a business consultant and tax advisor to his clients. His primary objective in business was the success of his clients and not himself. Upon retirement he was given a lifetime membership in the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Pat was an avid gardener and golfer although his backswing left a lot to be desired; mostly he just enjoyed the 19th hole.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucy Springer, his daughter, Karen Morris (Bob), his granddaughter, Rachel, of Memphis; son, Jeff ("Bud") Murchison (Vicki) of Soddy Daisy, and his children, Malia, MaKenzie, and Brennen; sister, Sissy Brown (Duane) of Orange Park, Fl., and Robert (“Bob”) Murchison (Janet) of Murfreesboro; and by nephews, Bobby and Larry Brown and nieces, Tanya Springer and Holly Kulp (David).
A visitation will be held at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN, 37343, from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, July 3 with the memorial service following at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the American Heart Association Chattanooga or The Food Bank of Soddy Daisy.
