Dr. Karen Mundy-Judkins, professor of sociology at Lee University, attended the 38th annual conference of the Association of Christians Teaching Sociology. The conference, which was held at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa., centered on the theme “In the Image: Negotiating Self in the Contemporary World.”
Since 1985, members from the Christian Sociological Society have attended the ACTS conferences in order to strengthen the working relationship between these groups. Although distinctive in their mission and history, ACTS and CSS share a common Christian faith and training in the discipline of sociology. Dr. Mundy-Judkins participated in the conference as a representative of the CSS to engage in the dialogue between the two organizations.
ACTS was founded in 1976 by Dr. Russ Heddendorf of Covenant College in Chattanooga as a means of establishing a network of Christian sociologists at faith-based colleges. CSS, founded in the same era, sought to reach out to Christian sociologists and students in secular environments.
