Vernice B. Smartt, 97, died on May 3, 2015 at her home in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
She had worked as a LPN at Health Center at Standifer Place also formerly known as Hamilton County Nursing Home. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Smartt, Sr.; parents, Alvis and Nettie Sharp and sons, Leroy, Joseph and Ivan Smartt, Jr.
Survivors include daughters-in-law, Jannie V. Smartt and Geraldine Smartt; granddaughters, She’rri Smartt McClellan-Doyle (David), LaRunda C. Smartt and Lorietta Smartt-Hubbard (Joshua); nephews, Dewey (Nettie) Smartt, Otis (Valerie) Smartt and Lorenzo (Dorothy) Smartt; seven great-grandchildren; devoted friends, Willie Pearl Deramus and Sanford Stone.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, May 8, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will be in Burkett’s Chapel Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday, May 7, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
