Transportation Department Announces Several Lane Closures

  • Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Effective immediately, Norfolk Southern will be making repairs to the railroad overpass on East 11th Street between Douglas Street and Baldwin Street, and there will be temporary lane closures.  Police officers will be onsite to flag traffic through the area.  These lane closures will be intermittent between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.  The project is scheduled for six days and should be completed by Tuesday, June 2, weather permitting.

Northshore Partners/Butch Lunsford will be closing the eastbound curb lane of Cherokee Boulevard at North Market Street for material delivery on Wednesday, May 27 from 8:30-11 a.m. This closure is weather permitting and will be rescheduled if there is any rain.

Talley Construction will be building an underground utility vault on the northwest corner of West 5th Street and Broad Street and will have to narrow the southbound lanes to one lane for excavation work.  The initial excavation is scheduled for one week, beginning Thursday, May 28.  After completion of this phase, there will be intermittent closures, still maintaining one lane open, for material and equipment deliveries through Monday, July 28.  All lane closures will be performed between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., and the roadway will be returned to two lanes after 4 p.m. each day.
