William V. Smith, Sr., 93, formerly of East Ridge, died on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in Sweetwater after residing at Wood Village.

Mr. Smith was born and raised in Chattanooga.  He joined the Army after attending Central High School and served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He returned to Chattanooga after the war where he and his late wife raised their family.  He later retired as the manager of Vogue Department Store.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy M. Smith; his parents, Frank and Sallie Smith; brother, Pierce Smith; and sisters, Mary Smith and Margarite Hullender.

Surviving are his son, William Smith Jr. and his wife, Patti, of Knoxville; and brother, Theodore (Cindy) Smith of Parma, Ohio.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 22, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pat Summitt Foundation, C/O East Tennessee Foundation, 520 W. Summit Hill Drive, Suite 1101, Knoxville, TN 37902.
