Release And Signing Party Set For Randy Nabors' New Book, Merciful

  • Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Rev. Randy Nabors, pastor emeritus of New City Fellowship, has just published a new book, Merciful, and the church has scheduled a book release and signing party to celebrate his achievement.

This event will be held Saturday, April 25 from 4-7 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall.

Subtitled “The Opportunity and Challenge of Discipling the Poor Out of Poverty,” the book presents a comprehensive approach for ministering to people in need, not only to provide immediate help but also to assist them in becoming self-sustaining, productive members of their community.

Mr.

Nabors understands the issues of poverty well, having experienced it firsthand while growing up in the projects of Newark, N.J. with his single mother and sisters.

It was a local church that helped them to overcome a life of destitution, and made it possible for Mr. Nabors to accomplish what had seemed unthinkable for him – to attend and graduate from college.

He proceeded to attend seminary and afterward, he and his wife, Joan, dedicated themselves to establishing an inner city church and through it, helping others ensnared in poverty to experience biblical mercy through a loving, caring congregation.

Mr. Nabors served as pastor of New City for many years and is now urban and mercy ministries coordinator for Mission to North America, under the Presbyterian Church in America. He also is a retired chaplain, having served for 32 years in the U.S. Army Reserve.

In addition to telling his own story, Mr. Nabors uses the book to explain how New City established an innovative ministry of mercy to its community and offers practical guidelines for other congregations to create similar initiatives to people in need who live in or near their area.

Copies of Merciful will be available at the party, and the author will be available to sign them.

The church is at 2424 E. 3rd St. To enter the fellowship hall, use the 4th Street entrance.
