Joe F. Smith, 89, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, April 17, 2015 at a local health care facility.
He was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Gadsden, Al., to the late Lelas Chesley Smith, Sr. and Ruth Wheeler Smith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Ehrenfeld.
Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church for 58 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He retired from General Electric after 35 years of service. Mr. Smith volunteered with Habitat for Humanity until he was 80 years old.
He had a good and full life, which he used to lead his family and serve his Lord.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jane Smith; sons, Wayne (Kelly) Smith, Brian Smith and Jason (Gina) Smith; son-in-law, Russ (Laurie) Ehrenfeld; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 20, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Tylan Blansit officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers include Steve Still, Adam Smith, Jacob Smith, Luke Smith, Grant Smith and Brennen Ehrenfeld
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday.
