A champion has returned home.

Tarah Garner, a two-time TSSAA state tennis singles champion for Boyd-Buchanan (2008-09), is now in her first year as the Bucs’ boys and girls tennis coach.

Holding a degree in broadcasting from Lee University where she played four years of tennis, Garner uses a hands-on approach to coaching as the four-time defending region champion girls are 4-0 and the boys squad is 1-3 this season.

“I make practice challenging and I hit with them as well as run the sprints and participate in the drills,” said Garner who is also a weekend on air personality for Hits 96 (96.5 FM).

“Being the tennis coach at my alma mater is a good experience as I found I missed tennis once my college career was over.”

At Lee, Garner was a four-year starter, all-conference as a sophomore when the team played in the NAIA national tournament (1-1) in 2011 and received the conference sportsmanship award as a senior.

“I enjoy being a coach and want to make this a career for myself.”
