Remembering Dr. Jack Willke - And Response

  • Tuesday, March 3, 2015
When I first became active as a Right-to-Life leader in 1975, Dr. Jack Willke (and his wife, Barbara) were the preeminent leaders at the National level.  Rarely did you see one without the other.
They literally wrote the book used by Pro-Life activists everywhere, The Handbook on Abortion. I carried it everywhere and studied it over and over. Their books sold millions of copies and were translated into many languages.
I remember them coming to Chattanooga in the 1970's to speak and present their slide show on Human Development.  Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Haney donated the use of the old Sheraton Hotel ballroom (now the Doubletree) and the room was packed.
They cast a giant shadow everywhere they went and there are no words to express how much they are missed.

With all due respect, I remember Dr. Jack Willkie as a quack turned crackpot. A quack and crackpot who championed the complete nonsense that women's bodies can resist conception during rape - a total fabrication that has been dis-proven in every corner of medical science. Quackery that was picked up on by other pseudo-Christian, Tea Party crackpots, like former Congressman Todd Akin, for no other reason than to trivialize rape and perpetuate their continuing war on women.
