After officers went to the home of a Red Bank man for a wellness check on Thursday afternoon, he struck a deputy in the face, then retreated to inside his house. SWAT Team members later stormed the house and found Linsey Rentzell in the basement.
Red Bank Police Department was notified earlier this afternoon by a mental health official from Johnson Mental Health Center in regard to the 46-year-old Rentzell, who lives at 208 Hedgewood.
The mental health official talked with Rentzell by phone and determined a well-being check was needed by law enforcement. When contact was made with him in the yard of the residence by officers, he became physically aggressive and belligerent refusing to cooperate, striking a deputy in the face with his fist. He then ran into the residence refusing to respond to requests from law enforcement.
Due to the fact it was unknown if he had weapons in the house, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was requested to respond to the address to provide assistance to officers already on scene. Entry was made to the residence and, after a search, Rentzell was located and taken into custody.
He was transported by Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital where he will undergo a mental evaluation before being transported to the Moccasin Bend facility.
The investigation is ongoing by both the Red Bank Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, with charges pending.
