School Grade For Grits - And Response

  • Sunday, February 1, 2015

I just watched a news item on Fox and Friends, about grading elementary students on how they have grits.  The thinking is how children are able to "tough" things out in life, they would receive a grade on their report card.

My feelings are this should be handled at home.  The people in support of this said students spend more time at school than home.  That is wrong; the children spend about seven hours at school,  part of that time is lunch, recess and other things. They are in the classroom about five hours.  The teachers have enough to get done during this short time without taking on any more of the parents' job.

Enough has been given to teachers that should be taught at home, it has cut into time to really teaching the "R."  Let's hold parents responsible for their job instead of putting every job of raising the children on the teachers' shoulders.

Teachers have family also and need to spend time with their children, teaching how to have "grits and guts," and enjoying watching their children grow up.  Most of their children have after school things that the parents want to watch and enjoy their children.  The teachers should not have to spend two to three hours at home doing things such as planning  or grading  papers, etc.

Let's hear from some teachers out there about your work load.

Fault the teachers and give them more duties.
