Bunny King
Frances “Bunny” Jones King of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, died in her sleep on Sunday, November 29, at the age of 78.
A native of Chattanooga, she was born on June 10, 1937, to Arthur Samuel and Catherine Ryan Jones.
Despite having rheumatoid arthritis, Bunny was an outstanding athlete in school and throughout most of her life. She loved many sports and lettered in basketball, volleyball, tennis and diving at Girls Preparatory School and Hollins College. Following her graduation, she played competitive tennis and later golf on Lookout Mountain. Her athletic prowess and her enthusiastic attitude endeared her to several generations. She worked for several summers as a counselor at Commons Camp and also taught school at Lookout Mountain School.
Bunny was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Theodore “Ted” Franklin King, Jr. Other survivors include her daughters, Hilda (Marshall) Jemison of Lookout Mountain; Ashley (Bob) Scoggins of Huntsville; sister, Catherine Gray of Lookout Mountain; her much loved grandchildren King and Bo Jemison and Sarah, Ryan and Sydney Scoggins; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank Brightstar of Chattanooga, especially Emily, Hannah, Moises, Patti, Pep, Sarah, Thomas and Vanessa, and Caris Hospice of Chattanooga, especially Lee Anne, for their loving care of Bunny in her final weeks.
The funeral will be held at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joe Novenson and Reverend Brian Salter officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. A private graveside service will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church or to the Frances Jones King Memorial Scholarship at Girls Preparatory School.
